Olkhon Island is the largest and the only island on Lake Baikal, where people havelived since ancient times. There are a lot of sunny days - the strongest wind off lake Sarma, coming from the valley of the river, drives away clouds from the island of Baikal.

Island Olkhon, which repeats the shape of the lake, is the sacred place of the lake-sea Baikal, where shamans still continue to perform their rituals. There is an abundance of small bays, coves, mysterious grottoes and caves. There are protected sacred forests and headlands, where no earthly man is allowed to walk in. According to local beliefs these places are inhabited by spirits. These spirits were traditionally cajoled not only by local residents but also by guests. The roads and mountain passes have special places where travelers stop and tie colorful ribbons to the branches of trees, throw coins, rice or sprinkle wine, asking for good luck in their further travels...

The Plein Air will take place on one of the most picturesque place of Olkhon: next to the large sandy beach Sarayskiy Bay and just a four hundred meters from the famous sacred place - Burhan cape, or Shaman cape. According to folktales the Shaman Cape was chosen as a place to live by Divine and Celestial spirits - Tengri, and their leader the Guta-Babai.

Dates of plein-air are from 25 June to 6 July. Accommodation is available in the ‘Sunny’ hostel which offers en suit double or triple rooms or hostel tents. Places are limited and have to be booked in advance.
